I just want to say I love the vintage WPA national park posters! I took 2 of them (Zion/Bryce) back home from my second trip to Zion NP in 2008, and added another one (Grand Canyon) last year. I must tell you that since I first saw your cards and posters I thought they truly caught the feel of the parks. In a world of so much digital photography creating beautiful photos and posters, I feel that the WPA designs depict the parks in such a different and more intimate way. I have enjoyed many of the National Parks throughout my life, as a kid with my family, as a mountaineering guide/rock climbing instructor, on my honeymoon, and twice as a parent with my kids. For me they are our our country's greatest treasure. Many thanks, Ranger Doug for producing all your wonderful products. For my family they will keep the very fond memories of our trips to the west alive.

You're my new hero. I'd first read your name when examining the fine print of that silkscreen poster I bought at Yosemite many years ago. Then I read about how you brought a whole bunch of these things back from extinction into our collective consciousness - long before the simple beauty of WPA posters became hip again. Next I browsed through your blog and found the Katahdin, the travels, and of course the log home with the I-can't-believe-it ain't-a-Hollywood-backdrop views. Well the road trip with the '61 Bambi tops it off. You're living a picture postcard view of the American Dream, one that you and Martina have written elegantly and uniquely in your own image. Compressed down into one website as it is, it's honestly, truly difficult for me to understand how you pack so much living into a single life - and it's incredibly inspirational.

Sometimes I wish I had grown up when the originals were released, they certainly would have made me want to see the parks. In a world of so much digital photography creating beautiful photos and posters, I feel that the style used by the WPA designs depict the parks in such a different and more intimate way. hey ranger doug -- so i'm sitting here salivating over several of these amazing posters, and then i see the size, and i think "i need bigger... BIGGER!" is there any way to get these posters in larger sizes? please advise. thank you for the work you do. i bought a box of your cards at yellowstone last year and really love all of the images. you're my new favorite gift idea, too.

Can't tell you how delighted I was that you responded to me directly given your hectic schedule. Thank you. And I had no idea your outfit operated out of Alaska. I hope to take you out for an ale if ever I'm in the area again. I took the opportunity to view General Grant this morning and it is beautiful. I appreciate the insight about the designs that are on the horizon and anxiously await their unveiling. It makes me wish I had more wall space to display them all! Any thoughts or requests for a design of Everglades? Just discovered your site a few minutes ago. It's terrific! Love the logo, too. I'm an architect/artist/rower, just started my own poster design business a few months ago. Specifically, we design rowing posters -- another art form of another era. Just acquired DeNoon's book on WPA posters and am absorbed in that, lots to learn. Best of luck in your work!

First, I wanted to say congratulations on preserving the historic National Park Posters. I believe that creating awareness and ownership in our national parks is great service to ensuring their lasting charm and beauty. It was in my recent travel to the Jackson and Grand Teton region that I became aware of these graphic posters. I purchased the Jenny Lake and Yellowstone posters and hope to add to my collection as I visit the other parks. However, I couldn't help but notice that many of these are western region parks. Being from the eastern part of the country, this really got me thinking that I should create some posters for many of the eastern parks. Accomplishing this has become a strong desire of mine. As a graphic designer I have the ability to illustrate these posters, but what I lack is the contacts/processes to make it become reality. My goal is not to copy the style of your posters but rather capture the same grandeur that each exudes in a new set of posters for the eastern region. So, as someone who wanted to become a Park Ranger and ended up becoming a Graphic Designer/Illustrator, I feel this is my way of contributing to a very worthwhile cause. I would greatly appreciate any information or guidance you can share that would make this come to fruition.

Thanks for the reply and all I can say is that I'm fascinated by this story even though I never heard anything related to it before about 10 days ago. I just bought a book called Posters for the People by Ennis Carter and look forward to any more books coming out on this subject as I've pretty much fallen in love with those great, nostalgic Parks posters. I did see several other WPA poster designs that focused on wildlife that were not on your site. All in all I counted about 24 posters designs on your site that dealt with the parks. What are they printed on? Are any of these on canvas like material in the serigraph vein or like painting reprodcutions where a computer actually paints the scanned image of a painting onto canvas? Lastly, congratulations and bravo on rescuing these wonderful images and saving some fantastic pieces of Americana. Job well done.

Doug, I did not realize that you are the one who recreated the WPA-style artwork for the missing designs. Your work is absolutely awesome and entirely authentic looking. I got my complete set of postcards yesterday and just ordered the Indian Court cards. I am framing every one of them and they will be one of the focal points of my new house post-Hurricane Katrina. You have all my favorite places which are so very dear to my heart and soul. I am a huge fan of WPA artwork, and so the cards will add to the quality of my life both artistically and spiritually. I continue to strive to be one of your most loyal customers, if not an informal member of your marketing team. I have also visited 42/57 National Parks with hopes to make it to all the Parks. I have 12 NPS/WPA Posters in my office and along the hallway/corridor. We have visitors from all over the country who stop to notice and I share with them the story behind them and where they can go to purchase their own. I am planning to order an additional 9 posters, bringing my total to 21. Big fan of these posters (have 7 so far), was surprised to see 3 more. Is Crater Lake an original WPA design or a modern one in that style? In either case a great addition to the series. Are there any others coming along that you have found or commissioned? PS - Random question - for the Grand Canyon poster, is there a chance that the "Ranger Naturalist Service" was left off the top of the poster by accident? I always wondered about that... Ans: Many of these posters had several versions with the type stripped out and even blank sections to allow space for campfire talk schedules. I've only seen this one version so perhaps the park just wanted a simple graphic design. Glacier has two versions. --Ranger Doug

Ranger Doug, We really enjoy your posters and enjoy the art and architecture of the WPA/CCC. We think an excellent addition of a modern park to be done in the WPA style would be Saguaro National Park in Tucson, Arizona. The CCC was very active in building many of the picnic areas and trails in the park and we feel it could be a unique image to add to the collection of fine posters. Thank you for your consideration.

My wife and I love the National Parks and have made it our goal to visit each and every one…all 57. Since we decided to embark on this quest two years ago we have made it to 10. Most recently we returned from a trip to the Pacific Northwest where I discovered the WPA posters for the first time in a gift shop at Mt. Rainier. I instantly became fascinated with this story and have been trying to track down any info on these. Thanks to your site I have found a great resource on this great story. I am a little confused on a few points though. Being a serious comic book collector I know the difficulty in finding WWII era comics in top condition. Obviously due to the paper they were printed on and the fact they were not preserved or were lost to paper shortage the fact they are in short supply today is no surprise. What I am trying to determine is that of the 35,000 different poster designs only 2000 actual original posters have survived from several million? Is that accurate? Also, the 2000 (like the 35,000 number) are not all National Parks related, correct? They contain other WPA poster categories? How many different National Parks images from the original WPA designs are available today? Finally, what do the originals sell for when/if they turn up? Are any on the market or are they all in private collections? Thanks and stay well,

I love the WPA National Parks reproductions! I always send these postcards out after visiting a National Park that has them. I'm from Utah, so I've got many copies of the Grand Canyon, Zion, and Bryce postcards still waiting to be mailed to friends. As I understand, some of the posters are actually newer designs executed in the older style. Can you tell me who any of the artists are that are creating these? Thanks!

Thank you for the postcards to fill in my collection. I particularly liked the Crater Lake design. The stickers are great, and I wonder why I waited so long to order them. You probably already know this, but I thought I would mention it just in case you don't. At the Museum of the Park Ranger in Norris Campground, Yellowstone NP, in the theater there are 4 or 5 national park posters I have seen nowhere else. Style is "steam lined." Since I doubt anything was produced during WWII, I suspect these date to the late 40s or early 50s. During my last visit there I asked for more information. The volunteer on duty told me he was a retired NPS assistant district superintendent, a fairly high career rank, but he knew nothing about these posters. Posters look original, but I'm not sure. Not your era, but perhaps something you might be interested in if you are branching out. Looking forward to ordering you next product. Keep searching.

Some ideas for future posters: 1. Cape Cod National Seashore I think you could do great things with the majestic dunes of this park and the unique flora/fauna that live in the coastal wetlands around them. It is a major tourist draw as you know, appealing to the same democgraphic that I suspect enjoys your wonderful posters. Keep up the great work! We have about seven posters but restrict ourselves to parks we've actually visited (we're probably not alone on that). Craters of the Moon.....

My slogan has sort of become "I like to use images of the past to communicate concepts of the present".
